General Travel Information
Planning ahead helps make your journey more comfortable and enjoyable. The following general information provides useful guidance for travelers visiting Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. Conditions and local regulations may change, so we recommend checking important requirements again before departure.

PASSPORT & TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Travelers should carry a passport with sufficient validity for all countries included in their itinerary. Many destinations require passports to remain valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

Keep a digital or printed copy of your passport, visa, travel insurance and other important documents separately from the originals.

Visa requirements vary according to nationality and destination. Please refer to our Visa Information page for further guidance.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos can be visited throughout the year, although weather conditions vary considerably by destination.

Cambodia: Generally, November to February offers cooler and drier weather. The green season brings lush landscapes and fewer visitors.

Vietnam: Because of the country's length, weather differs significantly between the north, centre and south. There is no single best season for the entire country.

Laos: The cooler and drier months are generally popular for sightseeing, while the green season offers beautiful scenery and a more peaceful atmosphere.

Our team can recommend the most suitable destinations according to your travel dates.

CLIMATE & CLOTHING

Southeast Asia generally has a tropical climate with warm temperatures and high humidity.

Lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended. Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, a hat and a light rain jacket are useful throughout the journey.

When visiting temples, pagodas and other religious sites, travelers should dress respectfully. Clothing covering the shoulders and knees is recommended where required.

CURRENCY & PAYMENTS

Cambodia: Cambodian Riel (KHR) is the official currency, while US dollars are also commonly used in many tourism-related businesses.

Vietnam: Vietnamese Dong (VND).

Laos: Lao Kip (LAK).

ATMs are widely available in major cities and tourist destinations, although access can be limited in rural areas. Major hotels, restaurants and shops increasingly accept international cards, but carrying some local cash is recommended for markets, small businesses and remote areas.

TRANSPORTATION

Asia Value Travel uses carefully selected transportation appropriate to the itinerary and group size.

Services may include:

  • Private air-conditioned cars and vans
  • Coaches for larger groups
  • Domestic flights
  • Boats and river cruises
  • Tuk-tuks and other local transport
  • Airport and hotel transfers

Road conditions and journey times can vary, particularly in rural and mountainous areas. Our itineraries are designed with realistic travel times and appropriate rest stops.

ELECTRICITY

Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos generally operate on 220–230V electricity at 50Hz, although plug and socket types may vary.

We recommend carrying a universal travel adapter, particularly when visiting several countries.

Travelers carrying sensitive electronic equipment should check the voltage compatibility of their devices before use.

HEALTH & WELL-BEING

Travelers should consult their doctor or a qualified travel-health professional before departure for personalized medical advice.

We recommend bringing any regular medication in its original packaging, together with an adequate supply for the entire journey.

Drink bottled or safely filtered water, use sun protection, stay hydrated and take appropriate precautions against mosquitoes.

Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.

LANGUAGE

Cambodia: Khmer
Vietnam: Vietnamese
Laos: Lao

English is commonly used within the tourism industry and in many hotels, restaurants and major tourist destinations.

Learning a few simple local expressions can make interactions with local communities even more enjoyable.

INTERNET & COMMUNICATION

Wi-Fi is widely available in hotels, restaurants and cafés in major destinations.

Local SIM cards and mobile data packages are generally easy to obtain, although travelers should check registration requirements and network coverage when purchasing a SIM.

Internet quality may be more limited in remote, rural or mountainous regions.

FOOD & DRINK

Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos each offer distinctive cuisines and excellent opportunities to discover local food.

Travelers will find everything from traditional markets and street food to international restaurants and fine dining.

Please inform Asia Value Travel in advance of any dietary requirements, allergies or special meal requests so that we can communicate them to hotels, restaurants and other service providers.

SHOPPING & LOCAL PRODUCTS

Local markets and artisan workshops are excellent places to discover traditional products and support local communities.

Popular items include textiles, silk, handicrafts, ceramics, artwork, coffee, spices and locally made souvenirs.

We encourage travelers to purchase responsibly and avoid products made from endangered wildlife, protected natural resources or cultural artifacts that cannot legally be exported.

CULTURE & LOCAL ETIQUETTE

Respect for local customs is an important part of travelling in Southeast Asia.

When visiting religious sites, dress appropriately and follow instructions regarding footwear, photography and restricted areas.

Always ask permission before photographing local people, particularly monks, children and people in rural communities.

A friendly, patient and respectful approach is greatly appreciated throughout the region.

SAFETY & SECURITY

Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos welcome millions of international visitors, but normal travel precautions should always be followed.

Keep valuables secure, be aware of your belongings in crowded areas and use hotel safes when available.

Follow the advice of your guide regarding local conditions, transportation, weather and activities.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that all travelers obtain comprehensive travel insurance before departure.

Your policy should be appropriate to your itinerary and ideally provide coverage for medical treatment, emergency assistance, trip cancellation or interruption, baggage and the activities you intend to participate in.

At Asia Value Travel (Cambodia), we encourage responsible tourism that respects local communities, cultures and the environment.

We ask our travelers to minimize single-use plastics, respect wildlife, conserve water and energy, support locally owned businesses and interact respectfully with communities.
